Poetry: Journey Into The Ocean

THE JOURNEY INTO THE OCEAN
By Princewill Daokorite

As the grey water of the River flows over its bed

In a long line across the land

Despite flowing over the rigours of Rocks and sands it never gave up

But keeps pushing through along its banks

When shaft of moonlight fell on it at night

It smiles because it aids the journey at night

When it had to journey through the night without light in sight

It views it as a blessing in disguise

For it shapes the journey

As the blazing sun reflects on it

From the clear blue sky in the day

It warmly smiles

For there's always light at the end of the tunnel

As it continued its journey

It waved warmly at the water birds and lilies

When it got to its mouth

Shaft of fear ran through it

As it views the vast and frightful nature of the Ocean

It thought of flowing back

With a flash of insight it realized it's impossible

So it decided to flow into the Ocean

Not as a River anymore but as an Ocean

THE LEARNING HUB: It's a funny thing about the modern..

It's a funny thing about the modern world. You hear girls in the toilets of clubs saying, " ... He didn't love me. He just couldn't deal with love. He was too f*cked up to know how to love me." Now, how did that happen? What was it about this unlovable century that convinced us we were, despite everything, eminently lovable as a people, as a species? What made us think that anyone who fails to love us is damaged, lacking, malfunctioning in some way? And particularly if they replace us with a god, or a weeping madonna, or the face of Christ in a ciabatta roll then we call them crazy. Deluded. Regressive. We are so convinced of the goodness of ourselves, and the goodness of our love, we cannot bear to believe that there might be something more worthy of love than us, more worthy of worship. Greetings cards routinely tell us everybody deserves love. No. Everybody deserves clean water. Not everybody deserves love all the time. ~Zadie Smith (Art: Painting by Alia E. El...

THE LEARNING HUB: To laugh is to risk appearing a fool,

To laugh is to risk appearing a fool, To weep is to risk appearing sentimental. To reach out to another is to risk involvement, To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self. To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss. To love is to risk not being loved in return, To live is to risk dying, To hope is to risk despair, To try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, But he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or live. Chained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom. Only a person who risks is free. ~Leo Buscaglia (Art: Photograph by Izis Bidermanas) ©THE LEARNING HUB 2023
